As an educator, my main goal is to instill independent critical thinking and creativity while enabling students to retain important biological concepts. In this way, I hope to prepare my students to excel in whatever career they pursue.
As a botanist, my goal is to unveil the green world that surrounds us and introduce my students to the beautiful life of plants.
Patagonia Field Botany
At Cornell, I teach a field botany course in Patagonia with Dr. Kevin Nixon and Dr. M. Alejandra Gandolfo. Over three weeks we travel from the Andean steppe through alpine glaciers to learn about how the flora is shaped by environmental conditions, ecological interactions, and anthropogenic pressures.
Atluri Biodiversity Collections Internship
Throughout the summer, we offer an 8-week paid research and learning experience for undergraduates through the BH Herbarium. Students learn field techniques, collections management, specimen digitization, and participate in a bioinventory project with weekly field trips around the finger lakes region in upstate New York.
